Throughout his career, he has worked at several news organizations across Texas, including KXAN in Austin and WOAI-TV in San Antonio, where his investigations spotlighted critical public concerns and resulted in meaningful change.
At WOAI-TV, Collister focused on exposing corruption and mismanagement within local governments and public agencies. Notably, his investigative work revealed lavish spending at CPS Energy, the city-owned utility, and uncovered corruption within the Housing Authority of Bexar County. These in-depth investigations highlighted significant issues of financial mismanagement and unethical practices, sparking public outrage and reform.
One of Collister’s most significant accomplishments came at KXAN Austin, where his groundbreaking investigation into racial profiling by Texas law enforcement earned him the prestigious duPont-Columbia Award. This report not only uncovered discriminatory practices within police departments but also led to legislative hearings and policy changes designed to address racial bias in policing.
In addition to the duPont-Columbia Award, Collister has earned numerous accolades, including multiple Emmy Awards, Edward R. Murrow Awards, and recognition from organizations like Investigative Reporters and Editors (IRE).
