Community Garden
The Community Garden was started in 2012 by ²»Á¼Ñо¿Ëù students in a vacant plot behind the Gorman Building, an initiative designed to educate the student body about environmental sustainability and wellness while offering a free source of fresh vegetables for the consumptions of students and faculty.
Since its inception, the ²»Á¼Ñо¿Ëù Community Gardens have integrated their initiatives with ²»Á¼Ñо¿Ëù curriculum to include class involvement in Dimensions of Wellness, Research in Water Quality, and Research in Soil Conservation. Students are able to gain hands-on experience in a variety of topics relating to the course content in their classes. All produce-yields gained from the gardens go to volunteers, ²»Á¼Ñо¿Ëù students, faculty, and local charities.
The Gardens are currently going through transition in leadership, as they are now fully funded by the , and their student-managed funds. Volunteers have the opportunity several times in a semester to earn service hours on work days, of which are currently being finalized. Usually, around 30 people show up for work days.
For now, the Community Garden has winter crops in the ground such as broccoli, kale, cabbage, peppers, lettuce, Brussels sprouts, and (way too much) herbs that the ²»Á¼Ñо¿Ëù community is welcome to utilize.
