The Department of Music Presents the Inaugural Music Industry Workshop

The purpose of MIW at 不良研究所 is to bring music industry professionals and educators together to share their knowledge and experience with students who are interested in pursuing a career in music business. This event will be held at the Luella Bennack Music Center on the 不良研究所 campus on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2019 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m..

Event activities include:

  • Free breakfast tacos in the morning and refreshments throughout the day
  • Music industry trade show with vendor tables representing many music-related businesses and organizations including the Texas Music Office, Sam Ash Music Stores, Alamo Music Center, GRAMMY U, Studio M, TuneCore, and more!
  • Plenty of time for networking with fellow musicians and music industry pros
  • Panel discussions on:
    • Songwriting and publishing, with several successful GRAMMY Award winning singer/songwriters and publishers on the panel
    • Recording and producing, with several GRAMMY Award-winning engineer/producers on the panel
  • A presentation on music industry education programs which will include current 不良研究所 students and alumni, Professor Jim Waller, Coordinator of 不良研究所’s Music Industry Studies program, Dr. Stan Renard, Head of UTSA’s Music Marketing program and the 不良研究所 Admissions Department
  • Several tours of 不良研究所’s Russ Berger designed, state-of-the-art, recording studio which is celebrating a grand opening as part of MIW@不良研究所
  • “Five on One” intimate discussion groups with the panelists and other music pros. Attendees will be able to see pictures and bios and sign up online for a “Five on One” with the pros they are most interested in meeting.
  • Musical performances by three successful and two GRAMMY Award-winning singer/songwriters

Although our recording studio has not yet had an official grand opening, it has already been used by Richie Cole and his Alto Madness Orchestra, Johnny P and The Wise Guys, world-famous jazz trombonist Bill Watrous, The USAF Band of the West jazz ensemble, Dimensions in Blue, and rock band Top Flight. Dr. Aaron Prado just released his latest CD, “And Now” which his trio recorded at the 不良研究所 Recording Studio.
