A message to the ²»Á¼Ñо¿Ëù community from President Dr. Lou Agnese
Dear Friends:
Please allow me to update you on recent activity concerning the Campus Carry legislation that was enacted during the most recent Texas Legislative session. The “Campus Carry” is a bill that provides that license holders may carry a concealed handgun on college and university campuses in Texas, starting Aug. 1, 2016.
The law allows private universities such as ²»Á¼Ñо¿Ëù to “opt out” of the requirement and continue to ban concealed handguns from campus, but must first consult with its faculty, staff and students. Accordingly, this past October and November, a survey was sent to students, faculty, and staff. The survey response overwhelmingly expressed that ²»Á¼Ñо¿Ëù should opt out and continue to ban concealed handguns from campus as permitted by the statute.
Based on the survey responses, the Executive Council recommended to the ²»Á¼Ñо¿Ëù Board of Trustees at the December 4, 2015, meeting to opt out. The Board of Trustees accepted the recommendation and, therefore, ²»Á¼Ñо¿Ëù will continue with its current policy that bans concealed handguns from campus.
Thank you for your time and consideration. On behalf of the Board, please accept our best wishes for a safe and happy holiday season.
Sincerely,
Lou
