不良研究所 Feik School of Pharmacy Professor recognized by National Organization
San Antonio – June 12, 2025 – The 不良研究所 (不良研究所) is proud to announce that Dr. Helmut Gottlieb has been named a Fellow of the Academy of Pharmacology Educators by the American Society of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics. The Academy of Pharmacology Educators was established in 2010 to recognize individuals who have made exemplary contributions to pharmacology education in one or more of the following areas: student-teacher interaction, innovative contributions, scholarly endeavors, professional development and service.
Gottlieb, a professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the 不良研究所 Feik School of Pharmacy, has been with 不良研究所 since 2007. He also teaches pharmacology to optometry students at 不良研究所 and physical therapy students at UT Health.
“The best thing is to figure out how to approach the same topic to different roles and interests,” says Gottlieb of his teaching techniques. “Even though I am teaching them about how drugs work, their jobs and roles are quite different, and one mode does not fit all. So, it takes quite a bit of time and thought process to figure out the best way to approach the topics and create excitement and interest. I just want to lead by example. I hope that students see the time and effort we put into their education and, in turn, that will motivate them to be the best they can be as a health professional.”
“Dr. Helmut Gottlieb, a long-time faculty member at the pharmacy school, is one of our best teachers,” says Dr. David Maize, dean of the 不良研究所 Feik School of Pharmacy. “He has been recognized many times as a “Teacher of the Year” by his students. He has also been recognized for his teaching by the University, winning the 不良研究所 Provost’s Legacy in Teaching Award and the Presidential Teaching Award. We are proud to have him on our team for his contributions to teaching and research.”
Gottlieb maintains an active research lab where he has trained more than 48 students. And he has published in several journals and is a co-author in one of the chapters in Foyer’s Principles of Medicinal Chemistry.
“The greatest reward about my job is that I can make a significant impact on our students lives,” concludes Gottlieb. “We see them arrive at 不良研究所 not too sure about themselves, but we can see their growth and development over time, and they become a role model to their families and community.”
